SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Friday alleged that although Omar has got more powers than the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Punjab in many respects, yet he did nothing to stop Central Government from executing Afzal Guru.
According to her instead of asking Central Government for stopping execution of Guru, he in turn asked centre to hang Guru to escalate tension in J&K for satisfying the conscience of Delhi Government and leaving his own people crying on roads.
Mehbooba was speaking to media persons after the Speaker adjourned the morning session of the Assembly today in the wake of the stormy situation created by opposition party members inside the assembly.
Our Chief Minister has the powers. If he will pick up the phone and he can make it possible in minutes. Once he should have asked PM to stop this execution, may be Afzal Guru would have been alive today, she said.
Urging upon the Omar Abdullah that he should treat Afzals family as his own family and his son as his own son, she said that people have lost faith in Indian democracy. People will not forget, the way Afzal was hanged on and this was the limit of cruelty.
All the confidence measures that our Party was able to build right from the time of Atal Bihari Vajipayee, all those measures were wasted, once Afzal was executed, she said.
Omar ! You have hurt Kashmiris where it hurts most. You will have to answer before the people in Kashmir. 12 years kids are languishing in Jails. It is shame, in your own constituency, two people were drowned by security forces, at least address this issue, Mehbooba said.
