SRINAGAR: Urging resistance groups to forge unity at least on critical issues facing the nation, senior Hurriyat leader and President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan Agha Syed Hassan Friday demanded return of the mortal remains of JKLF founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and recently executed Afzal Guru to Kashmir.
Agha Hassan who remained under house arrest for the third consecutive Friday and was barred from leading Friday congregational prayers at Imambargah Budgam castigated the government for suppressing the religious freedom of Kashmiri Muslims adding the execution of two valiant sons of Kashmir will not deter Kashmiris from marching ahead for their cherished goal of freedom.
He denounced the curbs placed on the people following hanging of Afzal Guru and said wanton arrests of youth on pretext of maintaining law and order was worst form of human rights violation.
He demanded release of activists and senior Hurriyat leaders including Shabbir Shah, Nayeem Khan Ashraf Sehrai.
Agha also ridiculed the mainstream parties for what he termed as shedding crocodile tears on the issue of Afzal Guru. Had the coalition government been sincere in its demand it would not have let its forces loose on demonstrators demanding return of Afzals body, Agha Hassan said.
Meanwhile, following the appeal of Mutahida Majlis-e-Mushawrat complete shutdown was observed in Budgam.
