SRINAGAR: A suspcted militant was killed in a fierce gun battle in Keri Sector of Rajouri district, official spokesman here said.
“At around 1345 hrs today, Army observed suspicious movement along the Line of Control in Keri Sector,” S N Acharya-Jammu based officiating Defence Spokesman-Ministry of Defence in a statement issued here said.
He said that the Army immediately cordoned the area on seeing the suspects, but they fired at the patrol party.
“Pakistani troops in a bid to give cover fire to the suspected militants, fired at Indian posts and violated the ceasefire truce,” he said adding that Indian Army exercised utmost restraint and responded to the fire.
“Troops however, maintained high alert, and exercised restraint. There was no casualty or injury was reported to our troops,” he said.
The spokesman said that late in the afternoon, contact was established with the militants.
“They fired at our troops, which was retaliated and the encounter triggered,” he said adding that the gun fight lasted for some time and in exchange of fire, one militant was eliminated.
Searches were in progress in the area, the spokesman added.
