SRINAGAR: A youth who was injured in police firing during protests in a Baramulla village yesterday succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Monday morning.
Ubaid Mushtaq, who was injured in the firing during a protest at Watergam village in Baramulla district yesterday succumbed to injuries at 3 am, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Aijaz Mustafa said.
He said the other injured youth — Sajad Ahmad, who was hit by a bullet in the head — is on life support system.
Earlier a youth drowned in central Kashmir Ganderbal district yesterday while allegedly being chased away by security forces during a protest.
However, a police spokesman denied the allegation, saying the youth drowned after a boat capsized in the river.
Meanwhile several thousand people defying curfew and chanting pro-Azadi slogans joined Ubaid’s funetral prayers at Watergam this morning.
A strict curfew continued for the third straight day without break across Kashmir Monday. Curfew was imposed following execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru in a Delhi prison on Saturday.
