SRINAGAR: Four people were injured when a leopard attacked them in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara, official sources said here today.
They said the leopard entered village Gulgam in the frontier district of Kupwara from nearby forest following heavy snowfall in the upper reaches. Before the villagers could do anything leoprad attacked and injured four people.
The injured identified as — Salam Din Reshi, Bilal Ahmad Mir, Abdul Rashid Gogree and Farhat Ahmad Teli — were admitted to hospital. They said later the villagers killed the leopard and the body was handed over to wildlife department.
The man-animal conflict has increased in the Jammu and Kashmir claiming the lives of 50 people and injuries to several hundred others. The agitated people also killed about 20 wild animals in retaliation during the past three years.
