SRINAGAR: A day after a new group claimed to have discovered sixty unmarked graves in central Kashmir, the Hurriyat (G) called for an international probe into the issue, while the Hurriyat (M) asked human rights groups to build pressure on India to halt human rights violations in the state.
Nearly five thousand unmarked graves have already been documented to have been found in the frontier districts of Kashmir and the Poonch-Rajouri belt in Jammu.
Unless the international community comes forward to investigate unmarked graves found in Jammu and Kashmir, the loss of life in the state will continue and the number (of unmarked graves) will go on rising, the Hurriyat (G) said today.
The Indian armed forces have perpetrated war crimes on a large-scale in Jammu and Kashmir, and human life in the state is still under severe threat due to the silence of the world community, the Hurriyat (G) said, calling for the unmarked graves to be investigated by some international institution.
In its statement, the Hurriyat (M) said that the discovery of 60 more unmarked graves in Kashmir should give international human rights organisations food for thought.
The Indian government and its agencies have been using every conceivable means of force and violence to suppress the struggle of the Kashmiri people, the Hurriyat )M) said.
Right from 1947, particularly after 1990, people have been subjected to state terrorism, death and destruction, custodial violence, and criminal assaults on women folk, of which there is no parallel in modern history, it said.
The Hurriyat (M) asked to take serious not of the fresh discoveries of unmarked graves in Kashmir and the atrocities inflicted on the people earlier.
They must build pressure on India to halt human rights violations in the state and grant its people the right of self-determination, it said
