JAMMU: A newly-wedded lady constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police here said. “The deceased identified as Afsana Kouser, wife of Shafiq Ahmed, resident of village Dodasan Bala in tehsil Thannamandi of Rajouri district yesterday ended her life by hanging herself with a ceiling fan,” police sources said.
The woman was posted at Jammu with 15th Battalion of Indian Reserve Police (IRP).
“The lady cop did not open the door of her room following which the family members broke it, which was bolted from inside and found her hanging with a ceiling fan,”police said.
Police said victim’s husband is also serving as a constable in the Jammu and Kashmir police department and posted at district police lines Rajouri. “The duo had married fortnight ago,” police added and said that case under section 174 of CrPC has been registered and investigations are in progress. The victim’s family has alleged foul play into the incident.
