SRINAGAR – A major tragedy was averted by police when a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was defused without causing any damage in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said here today.
They said a police party noticed an IED planted by militants under a bridge at Nai Basti, Tral, in Pulwama district last evening.
The area was immediately cordoned off and those present were taken to safer places. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was later defused without causing any damage.
They said militants wanted to snap the road communication in the area and target security force vehicles. Police has registered a case, they said adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants.
