Hopeful of increase in LPG cap
SRINAGAR – Claiming that there is sufficient stock of essential commodities in the valley, Minsiter for Consumer Affaris and Public Distribution (CAPD), Qamar Ali Akhoon said essential commodities in various hilly and non-hilly areas have been dumped in advance for six and two months respectively in view of road blockage due to expected snow fall.
Ive directed the officers to ensure that there is no difficulty to people and make available essential commodities in every corner of the state. Im myself going to visit the go-downs to inspect availability of stock across the valley. I am h olding meetings at Tehsil Headquaters in every district in coming weeks, he informed.
Regarding the LPG crisis in the state, the Minister said that said that CM and other Cabinet Ministers have approached federal government for increasing the LPG cap in case of J&K state as a special concession in view of harsh weather conditions. We got a positive response from the centre and were sure about the relaxation, he said. However, he was quick to add that the assurances have been verbal and that no documentary communication on the issue was received from the central Petroleum Ministry. CM has also written a letter to Prime Minister earlier in this regard, he added.
On market checking, he said the Deputy Commissioners in rural areas have been directed to ensure availability of quality and fixed rate essential commodities in markets. Ive also directed Director CAPD and District Development Commissioners to take civil society and media in confidence for betterment of market checking drive.
Meanwhile, minister held an important meeting with CAPD officers earlier. He directed them to reach out people for redressal of their grievances.
The Minister urged people in the city to honour traffic signals. Our State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shows respect to traffic lights, why should not his cabinet members and other members of government do so, said Akhoon while talking to KNS. If we (Ministers) shows respect to traffic rules it sends a good and positive message to the public, he added.
Describing the attack on Traffic Police by some VIPs PSOs as rarest of rare cases, Minister for transport and CAPD Qamar Ali Akhoon said that being transport Minister he himself follows the traffic rules and shows respect to traffic signal.
Admitting that some Traffic Police Personnel are involved in corruption and malpractices, he said that people should directly contact authorities against such cops. If people ignore their (Cops) corrupt behavior and will not report, it will not correct the system, said Akhoon.
On rampant road accidents in the state, he said he had directed the concerned authorities to establish rescue teams to reach accident victims in time. He said more deaths in accidents occur because the injured dont reach hospitals in time treatment.
He said a comprehensive plan has been prepared to avoid such unfortunate accidents. Report is a sum of suggestions about building of new fly over bridges, roads and various aspects to avoid these unfortunate accidents, said Akhoon. Government is also paying compensation to the victims of accident and injured, he added.
