SRINAGAR – Traffic on roads to far flung and remote areas besides national highway, connecting Ladakh region with the rest of the state, was resumed today.
These roads were closed in view of the forecast for fresh snowfall yesterday and today in the region.
Met department in Kashmir had issued a forecast for fresh snowfall forcing authorities to stop traffic as a precautionary measure.
Official sources said that though the weather remained dry and good, but as a precautionary measure, no vehicle was allowed on these routes on these days.
This was for the second time during the past one week, traffic restrictions had been imposed in Kashmir and Ladakh region as a precautionary measure.
The roads where the restriction had been imposed included Kargil -Zanskar, Srinagar-Zojila-Kargil, Kupwara-Machil-Tangdhar, Anantnag- Sinthan-Kishtwar, Bandipora-Gurez roads and Shopian-Mughal road. “We have allowed both way traffic on Srinagar-Leh national highway today,” a traffic police official said.

However, he has requested the passengers as well as the drivers to make their plans according to the weather conditions and consulting the traffic police before starting the journey on the highway.
Meanwhile, the Kargil AN-32 Courier Service of Indian Air Force will start operation from November 29. The service is operating between Srinagar-Kargil and Kargil-Jammu during winter months when the highway remained closed due to snowfall.
