JAMMU – At least 162 people were killed and 40 injured when a passenger bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in remote belt of Udhampur district of the state, a police spokesman here said.
“The bus on way from Basantgarh to Chenani this evening at around 1630 hrs met with an accident and plunged into a deep gorge near Dudu Chowki,” the spokesperson said.
He said 16 passengers died on the spot and about 40 were injured, some of them critically. “Rescue operation was in progress and more details are awaited,” a senior police official said.
