SRINAGAR (ONS) – A local Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militant was killed after a day-long operation by forces in Kulgam outskirts, even as troops took more areas into cordon by evening to tackle more militants suspected to hiding in villages.
Fighting had broken out this evening in farmland between Tanuk Jan and Kajjar villages in the Yaripora area when forces came up against militants during search operations launched early morning, reports said.
The militant slain in the half-an-hour gunbattle was identified as Shaukat Ahmad Tak of Panzgam, Pulwama, belonging to the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba group.
Unconfirmed reports that Taks associate had managed to flee from the scene.
