SRINAGAR – In order to popularise the technical education in the valley a one-day workshop on online approval process 2013-2014 was held at University of Kashmir here on Monday which was organised by the North Western Regional Office Chandigarh of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
During the workshop office bearers and representatives from AICTE during a presentation underscored the need of promoting technical education in the valley which they said is poorly represented in technical education at national level.
While interacting with the senior academicians, IT experts, Directors and Principals of various institutes and colleges of the valley where technical courses are being taught and Deans and Heads of various Faculties and Departments of the University of Kashmir and other Universities Dr SS Mantha, Chairman AICTE said that AICTE is a national level Apex Advisory Body with its mission of developing and promoting quality technical education in the country in a coordinated and integrated manner.
He said that Technical education at all levels in the country is witnessing a consistent growth pattern marked by the setting up of new Institutions and the improvement of the existing ones in tune with the quality assurance norms set by the accreditation agencies and the Council believes that Kashmir should not lag behind in this developmental process .
While discussing the various parameters introduced by the council from time to time to bring about changes in the Approval Process by introducing greater transparency and accountability through the e-governance Dr SS Mantha said that the emphasis this year is to put in place simplified procedures and greater ease in the approval process.
Access to Quality and Education to All will be the slogans for the year 2013-14 to give more impetus to quality in technical education and to be the best in the world. The role of AICTE as a regulator will be further geared up to weed out the institutions not fulfilling the norms and standards, said Dr Mantha.
In a power point presentation Member Secretary AICTE, Dr KP Issac informed the participants of the workshop about the procedures and modalities to be followed for grant of approval through a single application form for setting up new technical institution offering technical program at Degree / Post Graduate Degree and /or Diploma and Post Diploma Level, Change of Site / Location, Closure of Institute by AICTE for violating the norms and failing to fulfil any requirements as laid down by AICTE and Conversion of Womens Institution into co-ed Institution.
During the presentation he also discussed the procedures and guidelines laid down for grant of approval through Single Application Form extension of approval to existing Technical Institution or Technical Campus, Increase and or reduction in intake in existing courses, Adding course/s in existing program, Closure of program and or course, Mandatory provision of supernumerary seats for TFW Introducing / continuing / discontinuing supernumerary seats for PIO, Introducing / continuing / discontinuing seats for sons / daughters of NRIs, Change of name of the Institute ,Second Shift Programs ,Part Time Programs, Adding Dual Degree courses, Adding Integrated course Un Approved Institutions , Actions in case of violations of Regulations ,Collaboration & Twining Program between Indian and Foreign Universities / Institutions in the field of Technical Education, Research and Training.
