Srinagar – An employee of state Power Development Department was electrocuted today in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, leading to protests in the area.
Farooq Ahmad Shah died on the spot as he came in contact with a live wire while carrying out repairs on a electricity supply line at Prang in Ganderbal district, 40 kms from here, officials said.
Shah’s death led to spontaneous protests in Ganderbal area as the local residents accused the department of negligence.
Police had to use batons to disperse the protestors, the officials said, adding there were no reports of anyone getting hurt in police action.
