Srinagar – Following reports of hoarding and profiteering in cooking and lighting gas in the capital city in the wake of recent LPG cap, police Tuesday raided some business premises in downtown Khanyar and seized 78 cylinders allegedly meant for sale in the black market. Two persons have been arrested.
Quoting the superintendent of police, East, Tahir Saleem, reports said police raided the premises of Muhammad Siddiq Guru son of Abdul Ahad at Anzimar, Khanyar, and seized 32 cooking and lighting gas cylinders of varying weights from different oil companies. Some of them were allegedly being converted into lighting gas.
Guru has been arrested and a case registered u/s 3/7 EC (Essential Commodities) Act and 285 RPC vide FIR No 78/12 in the police station, Khanyar.
In another raid at Mughal Masjid, Khanyar, police seized 46 cooking and lighting LPG cylinders from the premises of Fayaz Ahmad Rangrez son of Abdus Salam. The shop owner was arrested and a case registered against him under FIR No 77/12 of Khanyar police station under section 3/7 EC Act. (KNS)
