KU Being Used As Launching Pad For Cultural Aggression
Srinagar: Claiming that the Kashmir University had been turned into a den of conspiracies, the chairman of the Hurriyat (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on Wednesday said that the institution was being used more for political purposes than for academics.
Geelani asked students of the university and other colleges to stiffly resist state coercion and called for public protests after Friday prayers on the Srinagar visit of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Students should make it clear to all occupation leaders including Rahul Gandhi that we will not surrender our right to freedom but will continue our struggle to throw off the yoke of slavery, Geelani said in a statement.
The Kashmir University has become a launching pad for Indian cultural aggression on Kashmir, he said. This is a part of a long-term plan put into effect after summer agitations showed New Delhi that it had failed to crush the spirit of freedom in Kashmiris.
India has launched a two-pronged strategy: to keep Kashmiri suppressed by the police and the army on the one hand, and on the other, use cultural aggression to damage the Muslim identity of Kashmiris and kill their yearning for freedom, he said.
Educational institutions, particularly the Kashmir University, are being used as launching pads for this cultural aggression, and certain unscrupulous officers at the varsity help in conducting programmes that are more political than academic, he said.
