Srinagar – The J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) celebrated 143rd Gandhi Jayanti in the premises of Direction office, Khadi & Village Industries Board, Old Secretariat Srinagar.
The celebration was attended among others by the Khadi Institutions of Kashmir Valley.
The function started at 10.30 a.m. by lighting the traditional lamp and paying floral tribute to Gandhiji by Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Khadi & Village Industries Board, . Ravinder Singh and other Officers of the Board and Secretaries of the various Khadi Institutions.
On the occasion, . Ravinder spoke about the head and heart qualities of Mahatma Gandhi whose relentless faith in non violence & truth culminated in the Independence of India. He said that Gandhiji was a champion of Swadeshi Movement wherein he believed that economic independence can be achieved by manufacturing of Swadeshi items particularly Khadi for which rural Industries can be encouraged as the 80 percent population of India lives in Villages.
He said that Gandhiji also believed that for the economic upliftment of our Villages, Khadi and Cottage Industries are as vital as life for the Body. His ideology holds good and relevance even today despite the changes the world has seen over the period of more than 60 years.
While concluding, the Secretary/CEO briefly said practicing Gandhian thought is a way of life and we need to practice the same in our day to day life.(Observer News Service)
