Srinagar: An army man on Tuesday was killed while two others, including a Major injured as India and Pakistan troops on Tuesday traded heavy gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Major Kambley, Havaldar Mahender and Rifleman A Thomas of army’s17 Madras were injured when Pakistani troops breached ceasefire agreement and opened fire upon Indian posts along the LoC in Mala area of Sunderbani Sector, official sources said.
The army officer and the Havaldar were shifted to Military Hospital Akhnoor for advanced treatment. However, Rifleman Thomas, who was admitted locally, succumbed to his injuries.
Official sources said that Indian army retaliated to Pakistan’s unprovoked ceasefire violation in a “befitting manner”
Pertinently, a JCO was killed in a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army along the LoC in Keri sector of the district on September 2.
BSF Shoots Dead Pak ‘Intruder’ In Uri
The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Tuesday shot dead an alleged intruder in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Around 2:15 pm, the personnel of BSF 70 battalion observed an individual moving suspiciously across the fence ahead of Post at Dhulanja, news agency GNS reported quoting official sources. The report said that the intruder was challenged on which he hide behind a tree.
“On warning that he will be fired upon if he didn’t come out with hands above .The intruder came out and was asked to walk towards the fence, with due caution. Subsequently the intruder came close to the fence and threw some papers across the fence. The same were being checked,” sources said.
“The intruder was asked to strip for closer search. He ran back and after repeated verbal warnings the intruder was shot by the BSF sentry. The intruder had fallen on the ground across fence and likely to be fatal,” they added.
Meanwhile, the BSF also claimed to have foiled a major infiltration bid by five heavily-armed militants along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The militants fled back to the Pakistani side after being confronted by the border guarding force, the BSF spokesman said.
He said a strong protest note is being lodged with the Pakistan Rangers for helping the infiltrating militants.
The spokesperson said alert troops observed movement of militants on the Pakistani side in Samba sector during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
“Their movement was tracked by BSF troops and at about 0030 hours, the group was seen close to the International Boundary where they reached taking advantage of the undulating ground and thick wild growth,” the spokesperson said.
He said the five militants took refuge in a depression having dense wild growth.
“The BSF troops challenged them to stop but they opened fired on the party,” the spokesperson said.
The BSF troops fired on the militants with coordinated effective fire and foiled a possible infiltration bid from the Pakistani side, he said.
He said the area was illuminated by the help of parabomb and BSF troops saw the militants fleeing.
“The area was searched but nothing was recovered as the militants could not cross the IB. A strong protest note is being lodged with Pakistan Rangers for their help in facilitating militants infiltrate towards the Indian side,” the spokesperson added. (With GNS inputs)
