Srinagar- A Labourer drowned in river Jehlum while he was extracting sand near Kernabel Kakapora area of south Kashmir Pulwama on Wednesday.
Official sources said that the 20-year-old labourer identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh was extracting sand when he drowned near Sambora bridge.
A number of locals jumped into the river to save the youth. However, they could only retrieve his body after hectic searches, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the police took the body to the nearby facility for postmortem and it would be handed over to the family for last rites after formalities are completed, they added.
