SRINAGAR: Police Thursday detained the father of two after his wife was found dead in her Sopore home. Locals alleged that the woman was murdered by her husband.
According to reports Rehana Akhtar (30) resident of Narpora was married to one Irshad Ahmed Reshi, resident of Shangri Top Watlab some 10 years back and the couple had two children. Reports said that Rehana ended her life after consuming some poisonous substance. Her postmortem was conducted at Mother and Child Care Hospital Sopore while the police said that position will be clear once they get the post mortem report.
After the protests staged by people at Watlab and Narpora, police detained the husband of deceased woman for questioning. We have called the husband of deceased woman for questioning. We are also waiting for the postmortem report, a police official told CNS adding that investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, people observed complete shutdown in many parts of Sopore against the death of woman and alleged that she was hanged by her in-laws at Shangri Top Watlab last night.
Unconfirmed reports said that the doctors who conducted the post-mortem of the deceased have ruled that the woman had been hanged. Reports said protests and minor stone-pelting also took place at few places. ONS
