Srinagar – A literary meet was organized on the fourth day of noted poet, writer and critic Prof Akbar Hyderi who had passed away on Tuesday after prolonged illness.
Several literary and social figures from all over the valley came to pay their tributes to the writer who has near 80 literary works to his credit.
Dr. Zafar Hyderi, son of Prof Hyderi, told the gathering that on the Chaharum they wanted to celebrate the achievements of the Prof Hyderi who has been an inspiration for many. He said that today a literary meet was organized in which several literary personalities came and spoke about the Prof Akbar Hyderi.
Important among them were Chief Information Commissioner Ghulam Rasool Sufi, Transport Commissioner, Syed Mohammad Fazal-ullah, Prof Ali Mohammad Bhat besides others.
He said that earlier prominent leader Maulana Abbas Ansari also paid tributes to Dr. Hyderi.
Considered to be among the foremost scholars of Urdu. Dr. Hyderi has nearly 80 literary works to his credit. Dr. Hyderi was also known as ‘Iqbal Shinaas’ and had worked on several projects related to Poet of the East.
He was editing and compiling the ‘Hakeem-ul-Ummat’ magazine for the past 20 years. The journal has achieved commendable popularity among the intellectual circles in Kashmir and abroad.
