SRINAGAR: Senior pro-freedom leader and Ittehadul Muslimeen patron Maulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari was placed under house arrest to prevent him from leading his followers to march to Lal Chowk on World Human Rights Day Tuesday.
Maulana Abbas was scheduled to lead a procession to city centre as per Hurriyat Conference programme but a large contingent of police and paramilitary forces descended on Khanqah-e-Sokhta locality late Monday night itself and closed all entry and exit points of Maulana’s residence.
In his message Maulana Abbas said, human rights are inalienable. All human rights are indivisible, whether they are civil and political rights, such as the rights to life, equality before the law and freedom of expression; freedom to practice religion besides economic, social and cultural rights. He said right to self-determination remains an inalienable right of a world citizen.
Meanwhile functions were held across Kashmir by Ittehadul Muslimeen to mark the Human Rights Day.
