SRINAGAR: Police on Monday foiled press conference of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani by sealing the road to his residence where the pro-freedom leader was scheduled to address the press.
A large contingent of police stationed outside Geelanis Hyderpora residence didnt allow media to proceed towards the venue.
A statement issued by the amalgam said that Geelani while condemning the police action said that the policy of coercion has backfired in the past and will have disastrous consequences in the future as well.
By keeping me under house arrest, the government has proved right my stand that elections in Kashmir are nothing but a military exercise where people are not elected but appointed, Geelani said.
Had elections in Kashmir been any genuine process, the government should not have prevented me from meeting people and presenting my view point, Geelani said.
Denying political space is a short sightedness of Indian rulers, Geelani said.
Instead they should revisit their Kashmir policy and fulfill the promises they have made with the people of Kashmir, he said.
