Srinagar: Kashmir is celebrating Eidul Azha with great religious fervour and enthusiasm today to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S).
However the usual buzz in the markets is missing with the Covid-19 epidemic and extended lockdown since August 5 last year acting as dampeners.
The day would usually dawn with special prayers in mosques and Eidgahs, with biggest congregations at Srinagars sprawling Eidgah Grounds and at Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of Dal Lake.
There was no rush of customers in the markets in Srinagar for Eid shopping. Shops selling Eid special items like ready made garments and eatables like bakery products and sweets did little business, according to trading bodies.
The sale of sacrificial animals was going on at many places in the city, including Eidgah, but very less than normal.
