SRINAGAR: Noted historian and senior NC leader Mohammad Yusuf Taing Thursday claimed that December 5 is not the actual birth date of National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and that Shiekh was actually born on January 29 and his year of birth was 1903 and not 1905.
Taing, the compiler of Aatesh-e-Chinar, Sheikhs autobiography told KNS, he has done an extensive research on the subject and that Sheikh has not mentioned his birth date as December 5 in his autobiography.
I argued with Sheikh Sahib about this issue and told him that December 5 is not his actual date of birth as per his research. Sheikh Sahib admitted that his brother may have registered his wrong birth date and the actual year, said Taing, adding, Shiekh did not mention his birth date in his book.
Taing said that Sheikh at that time told him that the Muslims at that time were not conscious to maintain birth or death records which may have caused the confusion.
Taing further claimed that he told Sheikh to rectify the error and that the misinformation must not spread. On this Taing quoted Sheikh as saying, It will trouble my supporters and general masses will get disturbed by same.
In order to remove this confusion, Taing claimed that Sheikh later decided neither the actual birth date shall be mentioned, nor the incorrect one shall be included in Aatesh-e-Chinar (Shiekhs autobiography). (KNS)
