Srinagar: Authorities at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura on Thursday urged journalists to cover and report ongoing Covid-19 crisis sensibly—assuring that a robust mechanism was in place at the tertiary-level healthcare institute to deal with the pandemic.
“During this Pandemic, we have to share the common responsibilities to deal with the crisis and all the more relevant to the journalists, reporting health in their stories etc. and not become the part of fake news themselves,” SKIMS spokesperson said in a statement.
“We appreciate the positive role of the media for highlighting some relevant issues in the healthcare system but at the same time however when the social media has taken over the news gathering machinery, I urge the esteemed journalists and the editors of the news media organizations to at least cross check the facts,” the official said.
Refuting the frivolous claims of some news media outlets, the officials said that the doctors and paramedics at the premiere tertiary healthcare institute were working round the clock to provide quality healthcare to the in-patients, especially to the COVID-19 positive patients.
They said that a special and dedicated Infectious Diseases Ward has been recently created for catering to the huge influx of Covid-19 positive patients. “We not only have a responsibility towards ourselves but also to our families and society in general so we follow each and every guideline very religiously.”
The officials said that SKIMS Administrative Block “becoming COVID-19 hotspot” was far from reality. “What is even so disgusting that at a time when the officials, doctors and paramedics who are working 24X7 are demoralized by just the social media reports and then some sections of newspapers carry the news without even verifying it from the SKIMS,” they said.
The official said that normal procedural formalities and protocol are followed in each and every case.
