SRINAGAR: Authorities Thursday barred Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani from holding a news conference at his Hyderpora residence.
A large contingent of police personnel deployed on the lane leading to Geelanis residence prevented media persons from moving ahead.
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has announced that he will hold a press conference on Saturday afternoon. Terming the police act as undemocratic, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said it is irony that in the era of internet when communication is so easy, authorities are preventing Geelani Sahab from interacting mediamen.
Akbar said todays action shows how popularity of Geelani has frustrated authorities. It makes no sense to impose curbs on Geelani as we have different means to reach to people, he said adding, it was not the first time that Geelani Sahab was prevented from holding press conference.
