SRINAGAR: Aijaz Banday, who passed away Sunday night after brief spell of illness, was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard here today .
Large number of people from different walks of life joined his funeral prayers at Buchpora and many later joined the burial ceremony at historic Budshah cemetery at Zainakadal.
A noted banker and head of J&K Banks Regional Self Employment Training Institute Aijaz Ahmad Banday, 53, breathed his last after battling cancer for over a month. He is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.
The deceased was the brother of distinguished medic Dr Abdul Wahid.
“Always wearing a smile on his face, he brought cheer to the gloomy. Perhaps the glow on his face came from his spiritual orientation. He was at peace even in the most sorrowful situations”, commented one of his friends.
J&K Bank family pays tributes
Bidding a tearful adieu to their colleague and friend, J&K Bank staff held a condolence meet here at the Banks Corporate Headquarters.
The meeting was attended by the banks Executive Presidents (EP) Abdul Hamid Banday, O P Sharma, Presidents Abdul Rauf Bhat, S K Bhat, Vice presidents and other staff.
In his message from Mumbai, Chairman & CEO Mushtaq Ahmad expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Aijaz and said that the entire J&K Bank family mourns his loss and equally shares the grief of his family.
Paying rich tributes to Aijaz, Abdul Hamid Banday said, Aijaz was a thorough gentleman with an intellectual bent of mind. He was well known among literary circles in the valley.
With his untimely death, we have lost a wonderful companion, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, President HRD Abdul Rauf Bhat paid homage to the friendly character of Aijaz and said, He had a nice and friendly demeanour towards others. He was always there to help others. He was a very decent man who contributed to the success of this organisation in his own way.
He would made friends out of strangers and would always have a smile on his face. We shall miss him badly for all times to come, said Altaf Ahmad Wani, President J&K Bank Officers Association.
Congregational Fateha shall be held at Budshah cemetery on Thursday at 10.30 A.M, family sources said.
