SRINAGAR: Kashmir valley reeled under a cold wave Monday with Leh, in Ladakh region, recording lowest temperature of minus 11.2 degrees Celcius.
Srinagar registered a new low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said here.
He said the minimum temperature in Srinagar continues to remain below the normal for this part of the season.
Leh town recorded a low of minus 11.2 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam was the coldest place in the valley as the mercury settled at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius as against the last night’s minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said the ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.4 degree Celsius as compared to Sunday night’s minus 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund and Kokernag, in south Kashmir, registered a slight improvement in the night temperatures as the minimum settled at minus 2.0 degrees Celsius and 1.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
The night temperature in the north Kashmir town of Kupwara fell to minus 2.9 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous night’s minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, the official said.
The MeT department has forecast mainly dry weather across Kashmir division over the next 24 hours.
