SRINAGAR: Lauding the role of Jammu and Kashmir police, Director General of Police Ashok Prasad Monday said that JKP is being modernized to counter the insurgency successfully.
Police was able to able to handle two agitations successfully and we are launched new modernization schemes to make our Force up to date, Prasad told reporters on the sidelines of passing out parade at Litapora Training Centre in Pulwama.
He said militant attacks are not affecting the public now as the militants have changed their strategy and are targeting Police and Security Forces. Militants have changed their strategy and they have two objectives behind targeting security personnel. One is to demoralize them and the other is that they should over react after every attack. We are consciously avoiding both and are not giving them open hand, he said.
Prasad said that the graph of militancy has come down considerably while police and Security Forces have managed to neutralize top militant commanders. Militants are trying to create sensation by attacking police and Security Forces but we are trying our best to curb their movements and attacks, he said.
Stating that police in collaboration with other agencies like CRPF and Army has started people-friendly operations, DGP said that they have succeeded in minimizing the collateral damages and are trying to reduce it to zero level.
Prasad said that militants are trying to instigate violence in Kashmir and for this purpose, they are adopting different tactics. Though we have achieved great successes against these militants still they are present in some parts of North and South Kashmir, the police chief said.
When asked to comment on the development of dialogue which Hurriyat is likely to hold with New Delhi, Prasad said that he doesnt know which people are mulling to talk to Government of India. Hurriyat people would be in a better position to answer this question, he said.
