Srinagar – Security agencies went into a tizzy in Baramulla on Thursday after protestors abducted a police constable during demonstrations and stone-pelting against the arrest of a local youth.
Top police officers went into a crisis huddle and held frantic consultations with CRPF and army authorities to hammer out a strategy to deal with the incident, the first of its kind in Kashmir.
Head constable Mushtaq Ahmad of IR 14th battalion had been grabbed when on duty in the towns vegetable market near the main square, reports said.
The snatch occurred when clashes were on in several nearby areas, they said.
Security agencies launched joint operations immediately afterwards and threw a tight cordon around specific localities in a bid to recover the abducted cop.
Acting on some inputs, the forces zeroed in on an orchard near Faqueer Wani on the outskirts of the town, and recovered the policeman safe and sound.
Though a hunt was on for his abductors, no arrests had been made till reports last came in.
Late Thursday a police spokesman said police sought assistance of the army and rescued head constable Mushtaq Ahmad from the clutches of his abductors.
Baramulla Police immediately swung into action and planned a rescue with Army and rescued the kidnapped official from old town, Baramulla, he said adding, A case FIR No: 197/2012 was registered in this regard in police station , Baramulla.
