SRINAGAR: Hundreds of Government employees under the banner of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) staged protest against State repression on Saturday.
According to reports, hundreds of government employees headed by JCC leader Abdul Qayoom Wani assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar to register their protest against repressive policies adopted by the State Government.
The protesting employees while raising anti-government slogans demanded the revocation of anti-employees law ESMA and implementation of agreement.
Abdul Qayoom Wani said that protest was against anti-employees policies adopted by the State Government. This protest is against ESMA, No work No pay, detention of employees and non-implementation of agreement, he said.
Wani said that it is irony that Government employees are not allowed to hold peaceful meetings. Our peaceful marches and meeting are foiled by police and we are being caged in jails. This is the height of repression. Present State Government has tarnished the basic principles of democracy, he said.
He said that next week an important meeting of JCC would be convened in which strategy about future would be chalked out.
Police detained Abdul Qayoom Wani and other protesting employees including some females who respectively were lodged in Khoti Bagh and Ram Bagh police stations.
A police official said that all the employees were released in the evening.
