SRINAGAR: London based human rights activist and secretary of Council for Human Rights (JKCHR) Dr Nazir Gilani today said people of Kashmir are entitled to right to self determination and the state assembly is suffering from legislative disability as it does not represent the whole territory thus being under Unites Nations caution.
Addressing the book release function organized by Awami National Conference (ANC) at SKICC, Dr Gilani said: We have ourselves dismantled symbolism in Kashmir. Our state legislative assembly suffers from legislative disability in view Article 48 of its own constitution and the resolution adopted by the United Nations on March 30, 1951.
Dr Gilai who is internationally known as an authority on jurisprudence of Kashmir issue, observed that Kashmiris have failed to protect and glorify their mentors with an element of honesty. He said the Kashmiris have unfortunately a feeling of being subordinates while as the people of Jammu and Kashmir a distinction under state subject law which has clearly demarcated their specialtya privilege which cannot be availed by an Indian or a Pakistani citizen. Kashmiris lack the feeling of principal of equality and most of the time, we behave like sub ordinates. We should remember that if there is any dispute that is between India and Pakistan but the people of Kashmir have a distinction.
The JKCHR chairman lauded G M Shahs role as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir saying that he was most accessible to people. Shah Sahib was a person of humane qualities, had decisive ability and a firm stand as a state subject. He was most accessible chief minister. He had to pay for his utmost courage. He was people friendly.
Referring to Yasir Arafats advise, Dr Gilani said that the Palestinian leader Kashmiris to conserve its youth. He said the family of National Conference ad its founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah are the most misunderstood family in the state. Sheikh Sahib had frequently referred to my people, my nation during his speech in United Nations.
He also stressed need to turn Kashmiri from votary citizens to a vigilant citizens. We have a title and we are fighting on the basis of principles. We should remind the Indian leadership of its petition to United Nations. India has petitioned that Kashmiris have a provisional accession with India and if Kashmiris want endorse it or to pull out it will have no objection. If they want to remain independent and seek admission in UN, India will have no objection. Similarly local factors cannot override Indias international obligations. This we should remind to Indian leadership, Parliamentarians and the think tank, Dr Gilani remarked.
