SRINAGAR: Third Front leader and former National Conference MP, Abdul Rashid Kabli Friday said that Syed Ali Geelani is as innocent as lamb but Government was using him as a tool to enforce election boycott.
I never doubt the honesty and integrity of Geelani but at the same time it is an established fact that National Conference has released him as part of a plan. Election Boycott is the conviction of Geelani but unfortunately, it helps those people to grab power who pursue anti-people policies and suppress our youth, Kabli told CNS.
Abdul Rashid Kabli said that criminal thinking of the government would lead us towards disaster. People are puzzled how and why Geelani was allowed to go to Sopore when every time Government considered him as a threat to peace. I dont doubt Geelani, but he should also realize NC’s snister plan of keeping people away from electoral process, he said.
Abdul Rashid Kabli on behalf of newly formed Third Front appealed Geelani to understand the criminal attitude of the Government and stop election boycott drive.
Peoples Democratic Party had also said that speculations were galore that Geelani was released by the government to serve its own political interest.
PDP chief spokesman Nayeem Akhtar while accusing National Conference of playing dirty politics had said on Thursday that, Apprehensions were there and many people believe that perhaps Geelani was released only because National Conference is benefited by his poll boycott campaign.
Asking people to vote for PDP in the forthcoming polls, the PDP chief spokesman accused that the atrocities committed on the people of the state during the NC regime have made them understood that they should change the system of government here.
It is the people who have to make the choice whether they boycott the polls or vote to change the system, said Akhtar. He further mentioned that his party hopes that Geelani will not be arrested or confined anymore.
Akhtar further stated that his party, PDP, was glad that Geelani is finally released and that he should be given the peaceful political space in future.
When asked whether Geelani should revise his poll boycott strategy, Akhtar said that it is Geelanis right to do whatever he wants to do politically. Our party cannot dictate terms to the aged separatist. (KNS)
