Srinagar: Police on Saturday claimed to have averted a major tragedy by detecting and diffusing an IED planted by militants to target government forces in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Around 6:30 am Saturday, a road opening party of CRPF 3rd battalion spotted a suspicious wire fitted with gas cylinder along the roadside at Lawdara crossing near Nadihal on Bandipora-Srinagar highway, a police spokesperson said. The area, he said was immediately sealed by joint forces and the traffic movement stopped.
“Bomb disposal squads of Police, Army and CRPF were pressed into action to diffuse the IED, who successfully diffused and destroyed it on spot without any damage,” the police spokesperson said.
He said that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the IED was planted to target the state forces convoys passing through the area, which was successfully thwarted by the joint efforts of government forces.
“Case FIR No. 61/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bandipora and investigation initiated,” the police spokesperson added.
