Film show, plucking saffron flowers among main attractions
SRINAGAR: The modalities for 3- day Saffron Festival, commencing from October 29 at Dusoo in Pulwama district, were finalized at an officers meeting held under the chairmanship of Director Tourism, Kashmir Talat Parvez here today.
Officers of SKUAST(K), Agro Industries Development Corporation, besides representatives of Tour Operators of Kashmir and Saffron Growers were present on the occasion.
Film show depicting the sowing and harvesting process of saffron, medicinal value of Saffron, plucking of saffron flowers by the tourists followed by a cultural show would be the main attractions of the festival. Agro industries will keep on sale and display the fresh and dry fruit products during the festival days.
The Tourism Development Corporation (TDC) has already announced 50 per-cent discount on lodging and boarding of the tourists and has made necessary arrangements for bringing tourists from Katra to the festival site while two buses would be kept at the disposal of Tour Operators for ferrying tourists to the festival site.
Calling for maintaining close coordination, Talat asked all the officers of line departments to ensure fool-proof arrangements for making the festival a success. He said that a massive publicity campaign would be launched to woo the tourists and asked concerned to print and distribute pamphlets among the tourists at main tourist places well in advance.
The Growers will offer rebate on saffron and will make growers aware about the benefits and medicinal values of the Saffron.
