SRINAGAR: Zonal elections of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front were today held at the open grounds of Jenab Sahib Soura Srinagar.
Chairman JKLF Mohammad Yasin Malik was the chief guest on the occasion and the function was presided over by chief election commissioner Abdul Majid Wani (father of late Ashfaq Majeed Wani).
In total 12 officials for the zonal committee were to be elected and from all three provinces 167 voters were eligible to cast their votes. Malik opened polling by casting his vote. Before the start of the process election commission received a letter from one of the candidates for presidential post Zahoor Ahmad Bhat in which he had announced his withdrawal of candidature in favor of another candidate Noor Mohammad Kalwal.
In his letter Bhat, younger brother of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, said that JKLF was the fulfillment of the dream of Maqbool Bhat Shaheed and there was no scope of nepotism in this organization.
The election started at 9:00 am and ended on 3:00 pm after which votes were counted and winners announced by the election commission.
Noor Mohammad Kalwal was elected zonal President while as Mohammad Yasin Bhat as senior vice president (zone), Mohammad Sideeq Shah as vice president 2nd.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid as general secretary zone and Farooq Ahmad Dar as deputy general secretary.
Sheikh Abdul Gaffer as assistant general secretary, Bashir Ahmad Bhat Kashmiri as chief organizer zone, Javed Iqbal Malik as deputy chief organizer, Ashraf bin Salam as publicity secretary , Moulana Mohammad Yakoob Rabbani as secretary finance and Mohammad Ayub as auditor zone.
