Srinagar: At least 28 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, two doctors and 17 paramedics were among 161 people who tested positive for coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, taking the number of infected people across the Union Territory to 4507.
“161 new COVID-19 cases were detected in J&K. While 115 of them are from Kashmir, 46 are from Jammu,” the officials said.
According to the reports, 28 CRPF personnel of 90 battalion tested Covid-19 positive at the Chest Diseases hospital here today. The samples of the CRPF men posted at Uranhall in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district were collected during mass sampling on Tuesday.
Among other cases, 37 were reported from Shopian, 19 from Udhampur, 18 from Kupwara, 12 from Poonch, 10 from Srinagar, eight from Baramulla, seven from Anantnag, six from Samba, four each from Bandipora & Jammu, two from Budgam, Ramban & Kathua and one each from Pulwama & Doda, they said.
About the Udhampur cases, the officials said include two doctors and 17 paramedics, who tested Covid-19 positive today.
The staff had come in contact with a pregnant woman who recently underwent a cesarean section at the hospital and were placed under quarantine after her report for COVID-19 came positive, they said.
Udhampur District Development Commissioner Piyush Singla, in a tweet, said, “With more than 1000 negative reports in the last 4 days we wake up with a report of 19 positives today, mostly the staff of district hospital (sic).”
“These were high risk contacts who attended to the delivery of a pregnant positive lady and were already quarantined,” he tweeted.
The officials said both the doctors and the paramedical staff were shifted to COVID wards after their reports came positive, while contact tracing was on to break the chain.
The officials also said that 165 patients recovered and were discharged from different hospitals.
The number of confirmed cases has now reached 4,507 out of which 3,522 are in Kashmir, while 985 are in Jammu, the officials said.
There are 2,785 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in J&K — 2,073 in Kashmir and 712 in Jammu — and 1,671 (1,403 from Kashmir and 268 from Jammu) patients have recovered, according to officials.
The J&K has witnessed 51 COVID-19 deaths so far (46 from Kashmir, 5 from Jammu)
