SRINAGAR: The Director General of Police Mr Ashok Prasad today expressed apprehensions of possible militant strikes including suicide attacks on security installations.
Prasad said that instructions have already been issued to the police force to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while on duty.
The DGP said in an interview that there were lapses on the part of the security forces including police which resulted into many incidents where the forces were made easy targets by militants.
The DGP said: Though the level of infiltration has come down but there is still presence of militants here who according to our reports have been directed to show their presence by intensifying strikes and carrying fidayeen (suicide) attacks.
Mr Prasad said that there was some laxity on part of police and other paramilitary forces which needs to be rectified. See the situation has changed and we cannot take the same measures which we would use a decade ago. There cannot be naakaas and frisking of everybody everywhere. But this does not mean that we will act as mute spectators and relax. There has been some laxity which led to many incidents like rifle snatching in Pampore and Tral. But instructions have already been issued to the department to maintain a tight vigil, the DGP told Kashmir News Service.
He said police and paramilitary forces should have taken precautions before going on their duties. These incidents took place because the forces did not take precautions as was required, while being on duty.
Referring to mounting tension on borders, the DGP said that the police force is coordinating with the civil administration in helping out the people who are migrating from border areas in Jammu region.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that security has been beefed up and the police was maintaining a tight vigil across the Valley especially on National Highway.
