Hajeej Director ‘Goes Into Hiding’

270 Hajj Aspirants Cough Up Rs 30,000 More, Feel Duped

Srinagar – In a new turn of events involving Hajeej Hajj and Umrah Services, the company director, Fabiyan Waheed, who was recently released on bail by a Srinagar court and had resumed his normal business, has gone into ‘hiding’, leaving around 270 Hajj aspirants in the lurch.

“He (Fabiyan) had told the court that he will take us for Hajj-2012,” said Ghulam Rasool Dar, one of the aspirants, adding the company had asked the intending pilgrims to deposit additional Rs 30,000 for the purpose.

“We deposited the money hoping he will not cheat us anymore,” Dar said, adding Fabiyan had promised them boarding and lodging in the green belt.

“Initially some 380 people applied for Hajj-2012 through Hajeej last year. Of them, some were selected through government quota this year, and others opted for refund,” Dar said, adding the aspirants trusted him and paid the additional amount.

He said Fabiyan had promised the visas on 15th of this month. But, even after four days since then, his whereabouts are not known and no one from the family was available in the company’s office. He said, “We were told by his employees that he is in Delhi.”

“In absence of Fabiyan, his brother and father used to be in the office. We heard they, too, have left the Valley on 15th of this month,” Dar said, alleging the company director was not picking up his telephone though he does respond to his employees. “And, now his telephone remains switched off,” he said.

When contacted, an employee of the company, Tahir, said the matter would be sorted out on 29th of this month. “Everything will be clear on 29th,” he told Kashmir Observer, adding Fabiyan’s family had left the valley and gone to Jammu for medical check and that they would be back on Monday.
