SRINAGAR: In a tragic incident, a leopard on Sunday-evening mauled a three-year-old boy to death in Kahipora village of Handwara, in north Kashmirs Kupwara district.
A leopard appeared in Kahipora village Sunday evening and dragged a three-year-old Merajudin of Kahipora from the compound of his house, a witness said.
The minor was playing in his house when he was attacked by the wild cat and was then dragged to the nearby forests. He added.
The body was retrieved on Monday morning and was sent to the family for last rights, a police official said.
Following the tragic incident, a pall of gloom descended upon the village when Merajs body reached home.
Later the villagers staged massive protest against wildlife authorities for failing to prevent entry of wild animals in residential areas.
The residents of the area said that wild animals had created a reign of terror in the area.
The wild animals are also on prowl at the adjoining villages wherein the people fear to venture out of their homes during the dusk, the inhabitants of these areas said. (GNS)
