SRINAGAR: A police man was killed after the vehicle he was driving met an accident following stone pelting by some youth near restive Palhalan in Pattan this afternoon.
Head Constable Kawlain Singh lost control over his vehicle following stone pelting by some men at Palhalan following Eid prayers, police said.
IGP Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Mir said a police vehicle came under attack from a group of stone-throwers at Palhalan after Eid prayers. Stones had hit the driver Head Constable Kawlain Singh who lost the control of his vehicle that hit an electricity pole.
The IGP said the injured cop was immediately shifted to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Although he was hit with a stone but the exact cause of death will be established after
post mortem, he said.
Sources in police said, that the Head Constable with belt number 144-B was a resident of Singhpora-Baramulla. The police has registered an FIR under 263/2013.
Reports said that except for the Palhalan incident, the situation in rest of the Valley remained peaceful and there was no untoward incident reported from anywhere.
