SRINAGAR: With only two days left to Eid-al-Azha, shoppers were seen snapping up clothes, shoes and gifts across Kashmir.
Shopping malls and markets were full of customers. Once again, the hottest items are confectionary, clothes, cosmetics, shoes, gifts and toys, shopkeepers said.
Despite traffic police stepping up patrols in the city to ensure motorists do not park illegally, chaotic scenes were witnessed in many city areas. Special arrangements have also been made in and around Lal Chowk, Residency Road, Nauhatta and Batmaloo where a high volume of traffic is expected.
After the pavement traders spread their stalls virtually all over Srinagar, roads in the city got choked by afternoon. Traffic policemen had a tough time regulating the flow of vehicles.
While queues of buyers were seen outside bakery and mutton shops, the most crowded places in the city were the makeshift animal markets, especially at the Eidgah ground in the old city.
At bakery stalls cakes, pastries, cookies and biscuits were selling in kilos.
I had placed my order with the baker a month ago. Even after that, I had to queue up this morning to get my ordered goods, said Aabid Ahmad, a resident of Habba Kadal in Srinagar.
