SRINAGAR: Expressing serious concern over the continuous usage of PENTAVALENT vaccine in Kashmir valley, Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) has said that the medicine was risking the lives of infants across state.
In a statement issued today, DAK said has expressed shock that despite 8 infants deaths reported due to the usage of this vaccine, it was already a part of national routine immunization programme.
The safety of the vaccine has been questioned and in India around 21 deaths have been reported because of vaccine. There is public interest litigation in Supreme Court of India filed by Dr Yogesh Jain seeking ban on PENTAVALENT vaccine. The vaccine has been already banned in UK, USA, Japan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and other countries, reads the statement.
It further mentioned that DAK is astonished that despite deaths in Kashmir by PENTAVALENT vaccine, its use on infants is continuing risking further lives of infants. Government has not bothered to analyze the vaccine so far, which I am sure will be spurious, said President DAK.
Pertinently DAK is protesting against spurious drugs in valley which allegedly have killed hundreds of innocent lives.
To our surprise those who are involved in fake drug business are shielded by government. Police instead of arresting those officials involved in spurious drug supply are busy in suppressing our righteous voice, he said.
Meanwhile in a press statement CSFK-H the spokesperson requested the Health Ministry to stop the vaccination drive of PENTAVALENT vaccine. “We strongly condemn the statement made by Director FW that the vaccination drive cannot be stopped till they get complete inquiry report”, said the statement.
CSFKH has asked Dir FW that are these humans or guenypigs on whom the vaccination will be tested. Such a careless approach will surely cost many more lives, he said.
The five member central team which arrived in Srinagar to investigate the issue should look into this issue from wide spectrum. The possibility of spurious and fake medicines should not be ignored as our hospitals were recently hit by a series of spurious drug scams. We further request the central and the state govt to immediately issue orders to stop PENTAVALENT vaccination which is costing human lives, he said.
