Threatens agitation against lease extension
SRINAGAR: Expressing his serious concern over the government proposal of extending lease deed of Tosmaidan meadow in central Kashmirs Budgam district Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani Friday said that APHC will oppose the move tooth and nail. .
We have learned from credible sources that money has been paid to ministers and bureaucrats for the purpose and they now plead on behalf of army and are hell-bent on going ahead with the extension of lease agreement, Geelani said in a statement today.
He warned of a strong protest against the move but only after taking the people of the affected area into confidence.
Geelani said the state authorities have decided to dispose all the resources and assets to the people in Delhi for their lust of power and money. They least care for their obligation towards the nation and community and are more detrimental than renegades of Ikhwan.
He said that though Ikhwanis killed the unarmed and innocent civilians politicians like Omar Abdullah and Ghulam Hassan Mir while playing as stooges handed over the dead bodies and all the available resources of the State to New Delhi for their petty interests.
Commenting over the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Geelani said they have admitted that due to military drills in Tosmaidan, immense loss has been suffered to the lives and property. He said they (authorities and army) are neither paying rent for said land nor any compensation to the families of deceased and injured persons. It is ironical that forces have not paid even a single penny as rent for the 3000 kanals of said land.
Flaying the administration the Hurriyat Chairman said despite admitting that no rent is being paid Omar Abdullah administration informed the assembly that they are considering the case and lease agreement was under examination. It is extreme cowardice, he said adding that since 1947, pro-India politicians are playing a criminal role and are looting and exploiting the resources of the state for their personal gains.
They are the main cause for the destruction and devastation in the state. They provided their services for Delhi, the chairman said, adding Actually the forces rule the system in state and their (govt.s) status is no more than stooges.
Geelani said it is merely to deceive the international community that a selected administration exists in state. Though after the revelations made by Gen V.K Singh we were expecting that no such deal would be executed but the declaration in this regard in assembly that the case is under examination and under consideration has surprised us.
It is apprehended that administration in a secret manner and without making it public would approve the lease case after Durbar move, the Hurriyat Chairman said and warned that Hurriyat Conference is closely monitoring the issue and with active support of the people of effected area will strongly oppose and would launch protest against extension in lease agreement for Tosmaidan meadow.
Commenting over the silence maintained by international community, Syed Ali Geelani said these organizations neither played any impressive role in protecting the human lives in state nor were Indian authorities held accountable for their wrongdoings.
