Hopeful 15 Flights Will Operate Daily: Director
Srinagar: After remaining closed for air traffic for nearly two months, the Srinagar International Airport is all set to reopen, as over a dozen inbound and outbound flights are likely to return on the runway on May 25
“Definitely from May 25, flight operations will resume at the Srinagar International Airport. Airlines are discussing about the numbers of flights. The schedule hasn’t been finalised but the meetings are going on,” Director Srinagar International Airport, Santosh Dhoke told Kashmir Observer.
“As of now, I am 99 percent sure that we will start operations at the Srinagar Airport from Monday,” he added.
To begin with, Dhoke said that the flight operations might be restrained between 30 to 50 percent in accordance with the decision taken by the Union Civil aviation Ministry.
“30-32 flights are normal during the summer schedule. As such, I am hopeful that more than 15 flights will operate daily at the airport,’ he said, adding “We also want flight operations in a staggered way for the convenience of the people,”
Giving details of the arrangements, Dhoke said that touch free operations and social distancing markings have already been put in place to ensure smooth functioning at the airport. He also said the SOP issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry will also be strictly adhered to.
“We have installed automatic hand sanitisers at all the checkpoints. All washrooms have been cleaned, liquid soaps have been kept there for fliers,” Dhoke said.
“The arrangements put in place at the airport will give a feel to the fliers as if it was never closed,” he added.
Lauding the role of J&K administration, Director Srinagar International Airport said that SMC have already installed sanitisation tunnels at the drop gate.
“The Divisional Commissioner has agreed to deploy a team of doctors at the Gate number 1. In addition to that, our doctors deployed at the airport will also do thermal screening of staff and fliers,”
