SRINAGAR: Normal Life remained crippled today in South Kashmirs Shopian district as a shutdown was observed by the residents to press for their demand for relocation of CRPF camp from the Gagran area of the town.
Five people were killed by the personnel of 14th Bn CRPF outside their camp at Gagran on 7th and 11th of September this year. Government later announced a judicial probe into the incident by retired High Court judge M L Koul.
According to reports, complete shutdown was observed with most of the schools, shops and other business establishments remaining closed. A thin vehicular movement was witnessed in the town.
During evening hours, youth gathered near Ahli-hadees mosque and started shouting pro-freedom and pro-Islamic slogans. They were also demanding removal of CRPF camp and release of detained Hurriyat leader Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, who was arrested yesterday in Srinagar allegedly on charges of leading protests in Shopian.
Some locals from the area said that although CRPF has started the relocation process but Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police has started to occupy the place.
