Srinagar: An extraordinary meeting of the Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) was held in Srinagar on Saturday to elect ad adhoc body of office bearers for managing the day to day affairs of the organization. The office bearers have been elected for a period of six months and the elections for these positions shall be held in April 2014.
According to KNS, Bashir Ahmad Bashir, Chief Editor Srinagar Times was elected as Patron while as Tahir Mohiuddin, Chief Editor Chattan was elected as President, Dr. Shujaat Bukhari, Editor Rising Kashmir was elected as Vice-President and Shafat Kira, Editor Kashmir Vision was elected as General Secretary of the organization. Mohammad Aslam, Chief Editor, Kashmir News Service (KNS) was elected as Coordinator of the KEG, the statement added.
The KEG members felt the need that the issues confronting the media fraternity in Kashmir need to be taken up with the concerned quarters without any delay as the media fraternity, according to the KEG statement is presently confronted with various issues.
The KEG while discussing the various issues that need to be taken up asked the government to streamline the release of payments that are overdue to media organizations in the state.
The KEG demanded that the government should immediately release the payments and arrears that have been withheld for no obvious reasons. (KNS)
