Srinagar: As calls for evacuation by stranded Kashmiris are getting louder with each passing day, the Jammu and Kashmir administration Saturday urged government of India to facilitate return of hundreds of residents stranded in foreign countries.
In a letter written to India’s Foreign Secretary, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, J&K Chief Secretary B. V. R. Subrahmanyam has sought evacuation of J&K residents from three foreign countries of Dubai, Oman and Iran. In his letter, Subrahmanyam has apprised Shringla that the J&K administration has also received evacuation request from these stranded people.
This is the second letter Subrahmanyam has written to government of India in a fortnight seeking help in evacuation of stranded J&K residents. Earlier, he had sought help in evacuating Kashmiri students from Bangladesh in view of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Urging personal intervention of Foreign Secretary in prioritizing the evacuation of stranded UT residents, J&K CS said that the prolonged stay abroad during the COVID-19 Pandemic has made them restless and fearful of catching the disease in a foreign country,” it said.
“They are also desirous of celebrating Eid festival, which is, approaching on 25 May in Jammu and Kashmir,” reads the official communiqué
In his latest letter, Subrahmanyam also praised government of India’s ‘Vande Bharat Mission’, saying that the evacuation of Kashmiri students from Bangladesh has been greatly appreciated by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
