Srinagar- Eighteen more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, taking the number of the Covid-19 patients in J&K to 879, said an official.
“Eighteen new cases have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours,” the officials said adding that forty-four patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals.
Of fresh cases, twelve were reported from Kashmir and six from Jammu division.
In Kashmir, eleven cases were reported from Kulgam and one from Baramulla district. Three each cases were reported from Jammu and Kathua districts.
The total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has now risen to 879.
Of the total number of cases reported so far, 802 are from Kashmir and 77 from Jammu. Ten people (nine In Kashmir and one In Jammu) have died and 427 patients (372 from Kashmir and 55 from Jammu) have recovered. The number of active cases stands at 442 (421 in Kashmir and 21 in Jammu).
More than 95,000 people have been kept under surveillance including those who are either in government established quarantine facilities or in home isolation.
Meanwhile, the media bulletin issued by the government today said that 50455 samples out of 51334 have tested as negative till today.
The bulletin also carried an advisory informing people that stigma around COVID-19 can discourage people to take necessary steps to fight the virus.
“Break the stigma; Encourage patients to come forward for COVID-19 testing if they develop symptoms, as early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease. Not disclosing symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms report early and do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice,” the advisory read.
